Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Charlton captain Luke Young after the player passed a medical at the Riverside yesterday.
The 28-year-old, who made over 200 appearances for the Addicks over his six years at the club, joins on a four-year contract for a fee of £2.5 million.
Primarily a full-back, Young can also be used as cover in central defence for Gareth Southgate's side.
He joins fellow England man Jonathan Woodgate on the club's books, following the former Real Madrid man's permanent move to Teesside after his loan spell last season.
Young has won seven caps and also has a wealth of top-level club experience. He has a 2001 League Cup winners' medal from his time at Tottenham Hotspur before he joined Charlton in a £4 million deal that summer.
Earlier this week Southgate confirmed he was close to securing a deal for the right-back but declined to embellish any details.
"Luke has been through all the medicals, that was fine, it's really just a case of getting all the forms through from Charlton and we're pretty much there," he remarked.
"We're delighted with that one, but until it's all signed I don't want to say anything further."
