Chelsea and England captain John Terry has heaped unexpected praise on Manchester United rival Cristiano Ronaldo, describing him as "the best in the world".
Terry has had a solid season in the Blues back-four but injury has restricted him to just 22 Premiership games, and as a result the centre-back has missed out on a nomination for the PFA award.
However, Ronaldo is on the six-man shortlist for the both the main player of the year award and the young player prize after his breakout season with United and Terry says the winger has his vote, without question.
"I totally admire the player after the stick he got after the World Cup," said Terry.
"That was understandable after knocking us out of the World Cup with Portugal. But full credit to him, he has dealt with it so well. He has done all his talking on the pitch.
"I could watch Manchester United just to watch him. He does things with the ball that you don't see anyone else in the world doing at the minute.
"He is the best in the world at the moment."
Also on the list of nominees for the PFA honour is Terry's Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba, who became the first player to score 30 goals for the west London outfit since Kerry Dixon 22 years ago.
But Terry has chosen to snub a vote for the striker in favour of Ronaldo and was in little doubt what characteristics made his game superior to every other player in the game.
"When he is at his best I don't think there are many people who can stop him," Terry added.
"When he is running at you like he does with his skills and tricks, you don't know which way he is going."
The PFA ceremony will take place on Sunday evening at London's Grosvenor House Hotel when the winners of the young player and the main award will be announced.
