Barcelona forward Ronaldinho has pulled a thigh muscle in training and is likely to be ruled out until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old is due to undergo a full programme of rehabilitation, however it is unlikely he will return in time for the climax to the campaign next month.
According to reports, the injury may mean the talented Brazilian has now played his last ever game for the Catalan giants as he is set to be sold in the summer after a below-par season.
Ronaldinho has endured his most testing season in the Nou Camp since he arrived at the club from Paris Saint Germain in 2003.
He has started only 13 league games and has missed crucial playing time due to a loss of form and a series of niggling injuries.
The arrival of Thierry Henry from Arsenal last summer appears to have disrupted the forward ranks at Barca, as the club have also been forced to fend off rumours all year that fellow striker Samuel Eto'o is set to leave.
Ronaldinho's injury will mean he is certainly ruled out of any Champions League semi-final against Premier League leaders Manchester United, who lead AS Roma 2-0 on aggregate after the first leg.
Barca are also in control in their two-legged tie against Schalke 04, having won the away leg 1-0 on Tuesday.
