Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand is hoping to secure a contract that will ensure his career ends at Old Trafford.
The Reds captain told the Sunday Mirror that the club has spoken to his agent and that he would welcome an effort to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
"I want to finish my career at United and the plan is to sign a contract that will enable me to do that," Ferdinand told the newspaper.
"The club have made contact with my agent and we'll go from there, but hopefully it will be done quickly," he added.
Ferdinand praised the atmosphere of playing at Old Trafford, describing the fans as "brilliant".
"I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be," the United and England defender said.
After striker Wayne Rooney expressed his desire to remain at the club over the long-term last week, club officials are keen to resolve the future of other star United players, Ferdinand indicated to the newspaper.
"It's important for everyone to get themselves sorted out and I think the club are trying to tie down lots of players," he noted.
Spanish football giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have regularly been linked with speculated transfer bids for United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese winger has indicated his fear of receiving a similar horror injury to Arsenal's Eduardo today after his side lost 1-0 in a controversial FA Cup tie at home to Portsmouth.
Rio Ferdinand had to play the closing stages as a stand-in-keeper during the tie after United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak, who replaced Edwin Van der Sar at half-time, was sent off.
