Lampard says "honest" Terry will bounce back

John Terry will bounce back, according to Frank Lampard
Chelsea's Frank Lampard has backed captain John Terry to bounce back from his crucial penalty miss in the Champions League final shootout against Manchester United.

The England centre-back slipped, putting his shot wide of Edwin van der Sar's left-hand post, when he had the chance to win the cup for the Blues with the tenth spot-kick.

Ryan Giggs scored United's next penalty and Nicolas Anelka saw his shot saved by Van der Sar to leave Terry devastated on the pitch afterwards.

Lampard, who claimed Chelsea's equaliser in normal time before scoring his spot-kick in the shootout, said Terry was inconsolable but said he would recover from the setback.

"It is difficult because I know how it feels and there is not much you can say," Lampard told Sky Sports.

"I just told him that it was a game of football and he was man enough to stand up and take it - but that won't do him much good hearing that at the moment.

"John should have no worries because he is the strongest man I have met in football - one of the best men in football. An honest man.

"He slipped and missed. It doesn't change anything for me. He is still the first person I want next to me in my team."End of story
