Ince "a proven winner", claims Rovers chairman

Chairman John Williams says new Blackburn boss Paul Ince is "a proven winner"
Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams has backed new manager Paul Ince to succeed at the club, calling him "a proven winner".

At the official unveiling of Ince as Mark Hughes' successor in the Ewood Park hotseat, Williams claimed he was "by far and away" the best candidate for the role.

And the Rovers supremo also believes his previous experience managing League Two sides Macclesfield Town and Milton Keynes Dons will stand him in good stead to succeed at the top level.

"He's a very hungry man, clearly driven and a proven winner as player and as a manager," Williams said.

"He is determined to succeed, but at the same time serving an apprenticeship in the lower leagues will help to keep his feet firmly on the ground.

"I believe he will be able to build on the solid platform that Mark Hughes has left for him."

Ince officially signed on as Blackburn's manager last Sunday, agreeing a three-year deal following talks with MK Dons over a compensation package during the week.

And Williams claimed he saw "genuine excitement and enthusiasm" in Ince, which the chairman said was "incredibly refreshing and uplifting", when the former Manchester United midfielder put pen to paper on the contract.

"I'm sure it will be infectious, on the training ground, in the dressing room and in the boardroom," Williams continued.

"He has all the characteristics you want to see in a manager."End of story
