Dutch goal-machine Huntelaar puts United on red alert

Sunday, 06 Jul 2008 20:26
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has already had spells at five Dutch clubs in his short career
Holland striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has revealed he wants to join Manchester United.

Contract talks between Huntelaar and Ajax have recently broken down, sparking interest from United, Arsenal, and Real Madrid.

Ajax are hopeful the forward may reconsider his decision to turn down their latest contract offer.

But the 24-year-old, who has bagged 70 goals in 82 appearances for the Dutch giants, claims United have made contact about a possible move.

"I love clubs with great history like Ajax, I also love United," Huntelaar said.

"It's a club that makes me dream, especially as Ruud van Nistelrooy played there and did great things with them.

"I know certain English clubs are following me, like Manchester United, who are very interested in me."

Newspaper reports today claim Arsenal will launch an £18 million bid for Huntelaar, if striker Emmanuel Adebayor joins Barcelona.

Huntelaar has scored a staggering 163 goals in 220 games in Holland and seven times in 12 appearances for the national team.

He scored in his only start at Euro 2008 in the 2-0 win over Romania in the group stages, before Marco Van Basten's side limped out in the quarter-finals to Russia. End of story
