Cech does not want to finish second-best to United again

Manchester United In Focus

Petr Cech says he does not want to finish second-best to Manchester United for a second week in a row when they play in the Champions League final on Wednesday.

Cech says getting to the final and then losing would come to the same difference as being knocked out of the group stage of the competition because only the winners are ever remembered.

The Czech Republic goalkeeper says getting to the final is a great achievement but says it will not count for anything if they lose.

He told the News of the World: "It would be heartbreaking to lose the final. That would be the worse feeling in the world. You can't imagine how bad that is.

"Nobody ever remembers a loser - never. I want to look back and remember the day, not regret it."

Cech believes the Blues will be hungrier than United on Wednesday after losing the Premier League title to their rivals.

The 25-year-old says United's relief at winning the title may affect them more adversely than Chelsea's disappointment at coming second.

He explained: "Losing the Premier League in the final game of the season to Manchester United gives us a special motivation.

"They have one trophy already and I for one do no want to see them celebrating again ahead of us."

With a 2-1 league win over United fresh in their minds, Cech says the Chelsea players are determined to overcome their rivals in the European final.End of story
