Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has hit back at Manchester United's complaint to Fifa over their role in the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga.

Following an announcement from United yesterday that they had lodged an official complaint with the governing body of world football, Calderon has claimed the English champions "don't have any evidence" to back up their claims.

United are unhappy with Real because of repeated comments to the press and stories in the media quoting Calderon and Madrid head coach Bernd Schuster as saying they would welcome Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

Sir Alex Ferguson has frequently denied rumours that the Portuguese winger is keen to leave Old Trafford and join Madrid.

And the Scot has also chastised the Real management for their apparent attempts to lure Ronaldo away from his club.

However, Calderon has pleaded innocence and is keen to underline that he believes the Primera Liga champions have not acted out of turn.

"They don't have any evidence because nothing has happened," the Reuters news agency quotes Calderon as saying.

"All there is is what the papers say and rumours that the player seems to want to leave.

"But at the moment a move is impossible because United don't want to sell him.

"It's United's right [to complain] but we haven't done anything and we are not going to do anything.

"It's a matter between the player and his club."

Fifa are yet to make an announcement over what action will be taken regarding United's complaint.

However, regardless of the outcome, the Ronaldo saga seems set to continue for at least several weeks after the Portuguese international told the media he would refuse to answer questions on his future until after Euro 2008.
