Andy Johnson is a major doubt for Everton's push for Europe due to an ankle injury.
The England striker, who has bagged 12 goals this season, hobbled off after only seven minutes of Everton's 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday.
Johnson was scheduled to have a scan yesterday but it was delayed to allow the swelling to go down.
The scan revealed Johnson had sprained his ankle and is a huge doubt for the Toffees' remaining three Premiership games.
Mick Rathbone, the club's head physio, said they are not saying how long Johnson will be out for.
"AJ has had a scan and that seems to confirm our clinical diagnosis that he sprained his ankle," Rathbone told the club's official website.
"It's too soon to estimate recovery time but the good thing is that the player normally heals quite quickly."
If the injury is serious, Johnson will miss the crunch games with Manchester United and Portsmouth at home and the clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the last day of the season.
David Moyes' side lie fifth in the table but are just four points ahead of eighth-placed Portsmouth before the sides meet on May 5th at Goodison Park.
