Denmark-Sweden game abandoned

Christian Poulsen was sent off in the game
Denmark's Euro 2008 qualifier against Sweden had to be abandoned with just one minute to play after a fan raced onto the field and tried to attack the referee.

The game between the arch-rivals was at level 3-3 after the home side had fought back from 3-0 down but when referee Herbert Fandel awarded a penalty to the visitors a fan ran on to the pitch.

Fandel had just sent off Christian Poulsen for his foul in the box and as the fan approached the official other Danish players were able to stop him as he reached his target.

The fan swung at the referee but was immediately restrained, first by the players and then by stewards who escorted the fan from the field of play.

Despite this Fandel decided he had had enough and walked off the pitch calling a halt to proceedings. Uefa plan to launch an investigation into the incident.

Uefa said in a statement: "The result of the group F contest will be confirmed following an investigation by the Uefa disciplinary committee upon receipt of the referee and delegate reports."

Johan Elmander scored twice and a Petter Hansson goal had given Sweden their advantage after just 26 minutes.

But strikes from Liverpool's Daniel Agger after 34 minutes and second half goals from Jon Dahl Tomasson and Leon Andreasen levelled things.

Sweden are currently one point behind Northern Ireland who lead group F. Denmark are fourth on seven points but have games in hand.

Fandel's last game was the Champions League final between Liverpool and Ac Milan.
