Blackburn Rovers have announced that Tugay has signed a one-year extension to his current deal, meaning the Turkish international will be at Ewood Park until next summer.
The midfielder will be 37 this August, but has been rewarded for playing a key role in helping to propel Rovers to a top-half Premiership finish and the Intertoto Cup.
"Blackburn Rovers are delighted to announce this morning that midfielder Tugay has signed a new one-year deal with the football club," said a club statement.
Tugay, who recently returned from international retirement in a bid to help Turkey qualify for Euro 2008, was signed by Mark Hughes' predecessor at the Lancashire side, Graeme Souness, in 2001 for £1.3 million from Rangers.
He has since gone on to become one of the Premiership's most influential playmakers and said today that he had "no hesitation" in extending his spell at Ewood Park.
After securing the immediate future of Tugay, who has scored ten goals in 230 appearances for the club, Hughes' next task will be to hold on to his team's key attacking trio of Benni McCarthy, Morten Gamst Pedersen and David Bentley, all of whom have attracted attention from some of the Premiership's biggest clubs.
