Everton are attempting to re-sign midfielder Manuel Fernandes on loan from Valencia for the rest of the season.
Fernandes spent the second half of last season at Goodison Park, having joined Portsmouth on loan for the first five months of the 2006/07 campaign.
The Portuguese winger created a good impression and the Toffees were keen to sign him permanently in the summer before being out-bid by Valencia.
His move to Goodison Park was also complicated by Global Sports Agency who claimed they owned the player, which breached Premier League rules on third-party ownership, but his transfer to Spain has cleared that matter up.
Fernandes has failed to break into the first team at Valencia and David Moyes is now hoping to get a second chance with the 21-year-old.
Valencia paid a reported £12 million for Fernandes in the summer and Moyes could be getting a bargain if he can secure the player on loan for a second time.
A statement on the Toffees' website confirmed they had contacted the player, saying: "Everton can confirm that Manuel Fernandes will arrive on Merseyside tomorrow to discuss the prospect of re-joining the club on loan until the end of the season."
Moyes is keen to bolster his midfield after losing Steven Pienaar to African Cup of Nations duty with South Africa.
The Toffees are currently sixth in the Premier League and Moyes will hope Fernandes' pace and creativity can help propel them into Europe.
