Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that striker David Nugent could leave Fratton Park before the transfer window closes this week.
The former Preston North End striker joined Pompey less than two months ago on a £6 million transfer and was expected to lead the line for the south coast outfit this season.
However the form of fellow forwards John Utaka and Kanu means Nugent has started just half of his side's competitive league games, and only managed his first goal for the club in last night's 3-0 Carling Cup victory over Leeds United.
And in an interview for Sky Sports, Redknapp admitted: "It's no secret Derby would like to buy [Nugent]. His old manager [Billy Davies] fancies him at Derby, we'll have to wait and see
if David wants to go.
"If people want to move then you let them go. It's up to David really I'll have a chat with him and see what his plans are."
Redknapp also confirmed that he may look to make at least one new purchase before the transfer window closes on Friday, and this could prompt him to sell Nugent on.
"You are always looking to improve your team and it just depends who was available," he continued.
"If someone came up who was a fantastic option and I had to sell somebody, it's whoever you can sell.
He added: "I might have to sacrifice one or two players who people think are good players because I want to improve the team.
"It's not a case of if it's David or someone else. If I have to raise some money to buy a top player, it's who you get an offer for."
