Chelsea captain John Terry said the club would take many positives away from their 4-0 win over Hull City in the third round of the Carling Cup.
The victory was Chelsea's first in five matches and the defender said it was good to get back to winning ways.
The Blues have come under close scrutiny since Jose Mourinho left the club last Thursday and the 26-year-old was pleased to have a positive result after a turbulent week at Stamford Bridge.
Scott Sinclair opened the scoring for the Blues in the first half before Salomon Kalou grabbed two goals either side of Steve Sidwell's strike in the second half.
Terry said: "It was a great win and certainly well needed, it is a tough place to come.
"I thought we played really well, we knew the first 15 to 20 minutes it was going to be really difficult and they were going to be in our faces. But we deserved it, especially after the last three games."
Chelsea's next game is a London derby against Fulham at Stamford Bridge and the Blues captain wants to use the cup victory as a springboard.
"We do our best to maintain team spirit in Chelsea. We'll try to keep it going. It has been tough recently but we take a lot of positives from this," said Terry.
The win was Avram Grant's first in charge of the Blues and he was pleased with the players' attitude following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
He said: "The dressing room is very good, you can see it on the pitch. Off the pitch I believe Chelsea players are 100 per cent committed to the club."
