Dutch giants Ajax have been angered by coach Henk ten Cate's sudden desire to move to Chelsea.
The former Barcelona assistant coach is poised to confirm his switch from Amsterdam to the English capital in the next few days after Chelsea offered Ajax a suitable compensation package for his services.
But Ajax's technical director Martin van Geel insists that despite the financial agreement between the two sides, the manner of the 52-year-old's departure has left him upset.
"Henk spoke with Chelsea a week last Thursday. The following Tuesday Henk approached the board and said he wanted to go to Chelsea," he told The Sun.
"Henk presented it to us as a fact and we didn't have any choice. We didn't want to work with a coach who had his mind at Chelsea.
"Things should have been done differently. I don't want to say more."
Ten Cate's impending installation alongside Avram Grant has increased speculation that the Israeli may be ousted from his managerial role in favour of one of the new man's compatriots such as Marco van Basten, Guus Hiddink or Frank Rijkaard.
However, officially at least, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy remain fully supportive of Jose Mourinho's successor.
Ajax have moved quickly to replace their Blues-bound head coach with the appointment of Adrie Koster to the position.
The move represents a promotion from within as Koster was previously in charge of the club's reserve side.
Netherlands coach Van Basten was alleged approached by his former club but national team duties prevented any reunion.
