Bolton manager Gary Megson is backing his side to escape relegation after a dispiriting 2-1 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers.
The Wanderers had gone ahead at the Reebok Stadium courtesy of a moment of genius from Kevin Nolan, but the lack of striking power caused by the Nicolas Anelka-shaped gap prevented them from adding more.
Blackburn goals from Christopher Samba and Kevin Roberts meant Bolton suffered only their second defeat at home this season, placing his side in a group of four on 20 points.
Only superior goal difference is keeping them above the drop zone and Birmingham, Wigan and Sunderland, but Megson believes his side have what it takes to keep their heads above water.
"I'd imagine that over the last ten games, in the form guide of everyone at the bottom, we'd be top - today was a bad day but we've got to make sure it was a one-off," he told the BBC.
On Roberts' last-minute goal, the culmination of a run which began inside his own half, Megson added: "It was cruel the fact it happened as late as it did, but we'd ridden our luck. They were on top most of the second half.
"We struggled to contain Jason Roberts, our organisation was poor, it was a bad goal to give away."
