Emmanuel Adebayor has apologised for his part in a clash with Arsenal team-mate Nicklas Bendtner during last night's defeat to Tottenham.
A bad night for Gunners fans has got even worse with news that the two strikers could be set for disciplinary action after the emphatic 5-1 Carling Cup semi-final defeat against north London rivals Spurs.
The Football Association has reportedly requested to see footage from the game at White Hart Lane.
Danish striker Bendtner, who scored an own goal to put Spurs 2-0 up in the first-half, seemed to suffer a cut lip in the incident as the two Arsenal stars squared up.
In a statement published on the Arsenal website, Adebayor admitted he should have been "more calm".
"I am sorry for the disagreement with my team-mate Nicklas," the Togolese striker said.
"We are both passionate about this club and sometimes that can be projected in the wrong way. It was a mistake. We want to focus on the games ahead and rely on our squad's great togetherness to achieve a fantastic season."
In the match itself, Adebayor scored a consolation goal to make it 4-1 after coming on as a second-half substitute, while Bendtner was left to rue the woodwork when his acrobatic effort after going 3-0 down came back off the bar.
Adebayor added that, despite the defeat, Arsenal could still enjoy a "fantastic season".
"We are a strong unit and what happened last night against Spurs will strengthen our desire and determination to compete for other targets," he said.
