Resigning from the BBC has given Russell Brand time to concentrate on new projects, with a remake of Arthur reportedly in the works.
The comedian and actor is developing a remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore comedy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The 33-year-old is said to have met with potential screenwriters for the remake, which will be produced by Larry Brezner, who has previously worked on Good Morning Vietnam, The 'Burbs and Little Britain USA.
Arthur tells of a drunken playboy whose inheritance is jeopardised when he falls for a working class girl, rather than the heiress his family have selected as a suitable bride.
Moore was nominated for an Oscar for the title role, while John Gielgud, who played his butler, was awarded the best supporting actor prize.
The film's theme song, The Best That You Can Do, won the best original song Oscar.
Brand found fame with US audiences for his turn as a charismatic rockstar in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and is to work with the same production team in the upcoming comedy Get Him to the Greek.
The controversial comedian recently resigned from his Radio 2 show after he and Jonathan Ross left lewd voicemails for veteran actor Andrew Sachs.
