Disgraced former pop star Gary Glitter is to appeal against a court order that requires him to inform the police if he intends to travel overseas.

Glitter - real name Paul Gadd - was handed a three-year prison sentence in Vietnam for "obscene acts with children" after being convicted in November 2005.

Upon his return to the UK in August, the 64-year-old was met by police and forced to sign the sex offenders register.

He was also served with the order, which permits him to travel, but requires that he notify police officers if he plans to be abroad for more than three days.

The shamed former glam rocker did not appear at a hearing at Harrow crown court in north-west London today, where his appeal was lodged.

The case will be heard on February 19th.

Glitter's return to Britain was delayed after he allegedly feigned heart trouble to prevent the trip back. He was deported first to Thailand and then Hong Kong before finally being put on a plane to his home country.

In 1999 he was sentenced to four months in jail in the UK after pleading guilty to charges of downloading pornography depicting children being abused.

He shot to fame in the 1970s for his glam-rock performances of songs including I Love You Love Me Love and Do You Wanna Touch Me.
