Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro has held four hours of talks with Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in Cuba, according to state television.
Mr Chavez is in Havana to film his weekly presidential television show as the country marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.
An evening newscast on Cuban television said the allies discussed "the history of our two peoples, the solid and growing relations between Cuba and Venezuela, the situation in Latin America and the serious problems faced by humanity."
No pictures or footage of the meeting have been released.
Mr Chavez is also scheduled to meet the Cuban leader's brother, Raul, who has been ruling the country since July 31st 2006, during his visit.
The two anti-American politicians have met frequently in the past with Mr Chavez informing the media about the health of the octogenarian Mr Castro.
The Communist leader has not been seen in public since July 2006 sparking rumours about his death. This September he appeared on Cuban TV in his trademark athletic wear speaking about current affairs and the state of the world economy in the wake of the credit crisis.
