Charlton skipper Luke Young has signed a new four-year contract with the Addicks.
The England international had been linked with a move across the Thames to West Ham United but he has pledged his future to the club which signed him from Tottenham in July 2001 following the arrival of new manager Iain Dowie.
The right-back admitted that the former Crystal Palace boss had played a big part in him re-signing.
"After listening to what the manager has to say and the direction he wants to take the club, it feels like a place where you want to work," Young said.
"To be honest the chat I had with the manager played a massive part in it all as the gaffer has big ambitions for the club and he wants things done properly."
The news of Young's new contract is the second boost for the south-east London club inside a week as striker Darren Bent also signed a contract extension.
With the new season under a month away, Young can now look forward to helping the Addicks move forward and he admits the spirit at the Valley was another reason which prompted him to stay.
"It's great from a personal point of view because I feel I've been quite consistent for the club over the past three seasons but there is a real sense of togetherness here and it's that I want to be a part of," Young added.
"Now I'll concentrate on getting myself fully fit and in tip-top shape for the pre-season games and of course the new season."
Charlton were also told today that American international defender Cory Gibbs will be given a work permit, meaning he can officially complete his transfer from Dutch side Feyenoord.
