Scrubs actress Elizabeth Banks is reportedly in final talks to play Laura Bush in a new film about the US president.

According to Variety, 34-year-old Banks is close to signing on to star as the First Lady in W, Oliver Stone's upcoming look at the life of George Bush.

Having starred in Seabiscuit, Slither, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and in the recurring role of Betty Brant in the Spider-Man movies, Massachusetts native Banks recently completed shooting Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno as well as work alongside Eddie Murphy in sci-fi comedy Meet Dave.

And should negotiations be completed, she will begin shooting W in Louisiana in April, with Josh Brolin already signed on to star as George Bush.

Based on a script he penned with his Wall Street co-writer Stanley Weiser, W will provide a "fair, true portrait of the man," Stone said.

"It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from," the JFK director explained in January.

"It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, pre-emptive attack on Iraq.

"It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."
