Sarah Palin is coming under pressure to respond to claims employees in her Alaskan state government received racist emails about Barack Obama.
According to the state's administration commissioner Annette Kreitzer about a dozen members of staff received and forwarded the emails in question about the president-elect.
One email summarised Mr Obama's victory in the United States presidential elections with the line "another black family living in government housing", while another ended: "Night Befo Crizzmus."
Ms Kreitzer told the Daily Telegraph the news was "embarrassing to the state".
The state chairman of the Alaska Black Leadership Conference, Reverend Alonzo Patterson, called on Mrs Palin to condemn the behaviour.
But a spokesman for the governor said the emails amounted to the actions of a handful of individuals among thousands of state employees.
Allegations of racially-coded language over Mr Obama dogged Mrs Palin campaign to be US vice president.
The self-confessed hockey mom accused the Democrat of "palling around with terrorists", while supporters of John McCain's running-mate shouted "kill him" and "behead him" at her rallies.
