The right to host the 2016 European Championships will be contested between four separate bids, Uefa has revealed.
Three individual national associations presented bid documents to European football's governing body by yesterday's deadline - including Turkey, who will be looking to host a major football tournament for the first time, with France and Italy also in contention.
A joint bid from Scandinavian neighbours Norway and Sweden completes the lineup ahead of the start of the official bid examination process, which gets underway next month.
This second phase will see the distribution of the bid requirements, which will allow the candidates to develop their bid dossiers ready for official presentations by February 15th next year.
Euro 2016 will be the first European international tournament to feature the expanded 24-team lineup, after Uefa voted to increase the number of qualifiers for the finals from 16 teams last year.
France and Italy have both hosted the tournament twice in the past - the French in 1960 and 1984, and the Italians in 1968 and 1980.
Sweden were solo hosts of the European Championships in 1992.
A final decision on the official host country for 2016 will be made in May 2010.
A joint bid from Ukraine and Poland was successful in securing the rights to the next tournament in 2012.
