Spanish coach Luis Aragones has insisted his team can go far at the World Cup after their 4-0 win over Ukraine.
The Spaniard are always fancied as potential winners but their campaigns have often been punctuated by early exits and accusations of stage-fright.
However, after an impressive display in their opening game in Leipzig, Aragones insists that his team are poised for a good tournament.
"Historically we have done nothing even though we have attended World Cups for the last 30 years but this time we hope to do something," Aragones said.
"If we show what we can do I know we can be among the top teams at this tournament."
The win puts Spain in a good position, two points clear of Tunisia and Saudi Arabia after their 2-2 draw.
However, Ukrainian coach Oleg Blokhin was furious with his side's display and the lack of fight they displayed.
"It is a shame, not only did we lose, we simply did not even put up a fight," Blokhin said.
"Spain are a strong and technically excellent side but there were times when we looked like the worst team in Europe and I apologise to all the Ukraine fans and I hope this will never be repeated."
Ukraine must now win their next game against Saudi Arabia if they are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
