Andy Murray has been seeded fourth for the Australian Open, a competition many bookmakers put him down as favourite to win.

The 21-year-old Scot is seeded behind the world's top three players Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Just one man from the world's top 32 is absent from the seedings; world number five Nikolay Davydenko who is out with a heel injury.

In the women's draw Serbia's Jelena Jankovic is seeded first in a draw missing only shoulder surgery victim Maria Sharapova and China's Li Na, who is out with a knee injury.

The men's draw could yet receive another casualty however after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, last year's finalist in Melbourne, pulled out of the Sydney International with a back injury.

Murray is bidding for his first-ever grand slam title in the first major contest of the season. The British number one has already defended his title at the Qatar Open, beating Roger Federer on the way to victory.
