Ireland have failed to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the second year in a row.

The seven-time winners missed out last year after voters were unmoved by a comedy song performed by glove puppet Dustin the Turkey.

And now Et Cetera, a pop-rock effort sung by girl band Sinead Mulvey and Black Daisy, was one of nine efforts to go out during Thursday night's semi-final stage.

The only positive note from the semi-final for Ireland as that Danish song Believe Again, which has progressed to the final, was written by Boyzone's Ronan Keating.

Norway, favourites to win this year's contest, also made the cut for Saturday's final in Moscow, while entries from Albania, Lithuania and Croatia also progressed,

The Netherlands were eliminated for the fifth year in a row while Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, Cyprus, Hungary and Slovenia also exited at the semi-final stage.

The UK's entrant Jade Ewen will perform her song It's My Time - co-written by Lord Lloyd Webber - 23rd in a lineup of 25 European entrants.

The nations that qualified from Thursday's semi-final were:

Croatia
Norway
Greece
Ukraine
Estonia
Lithuania
Azerbaijan
Albania
Denmark
Moldova
