Great Britain has lost the opening game in the Davis Cup tie against Ukraine, with Josh Goodall succumbing in straight sets to Illya Marchenko.
The British number two was drafted in to lead the national team, following Andy Murray's withdrawal due to ill health earlier this week.
Goodall managed to take Marchenko to a tie-break in each set but lost 7-2, 7-5 and 7-5 in each of the set deciders.
World number 383 Chris Eaton faces the daunting task of taking on Ukrainian number one Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second singles match. Stakhovsky is ranked 125th in the world and only narrowly lost to Murray in three tight sets in Dubai last week.
Results of blood tests carried out yesterday have revealed Andy Murray is not suffering from glandular fever but he is still reportedly feeling unwell.
