Arsenal have been drawn against Steve McClaren's FC Twente in the third qualifying round for the Uefa Champions League.
The former England boss will coach on home shores for the first time since he was sacked as the national team manager last year following his failure to qualify for Euro 2008 when he brings his Dutch side to the Emirates Stadium.
Five-time champions Liverpool have been handed a tie against Belgian outfit Standard Liege as they bid to reach the group stages of the European competition.
English domestic and European champions Manchester United have already qualified automatically alongside runners-up Chelsea and Scottish champions Celtic.
Rangers will be looking to join their Glasgow rivals in the group stage, but to do so they will have to overcome FBK Kaunas in the second qualifying round - the tie is goalless after the first leg - and then either Danish side Aalborg or Bosnia's FK Modrica.
The standout tie from the third qualifying round will see Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 play Spanish club Atletico Madrid, while Italian club Fiorentina will play Slavia Prague and Galatasaray of Turkey face Steaua Bucharest of Romania.
Spartak Moscow of Russia could be set to play Dynamo Kiev from neighbouring Ukraine, providing the latter can cash in on their 2-1 advantage from the first leg of their second qualifying round tie against Drogheda United of Ireland.
And 2006 winners FC Barcelona, who finished third in La Liga last season, must overcome Beitar Jerusalem or Wisla Krakow to reach the group stage in 2008/09.
