A 66-year-old woman who is set to be Britain's oldest mother says that her real age is an irrelevant issue as she feels young enough to have a child.
The Sunday Mirror reports that Elizabeth Adeney, a Suffolk-based businesswoman, is currently eight months pregnant after paying £10,000 for IVF treatment in Ukraine.
Speaking to the paper, the divorcee said: "It doesn't interest me that I'm going to be the oldest mum in the country."
"It's not my physical age that's important - it's how I feel inside," she added
She told the paper that she felt able to handle the stresses of being a mother and did not feel that she needed to defend herself from criticism.
"I have young girls working for me in my factory and I'm fitter than half of them. I don't have to defend what I've done. It's between me, my baby and no-one else."
Ms Adeney said it did not matter that she would be raising the baby on her own, adding that she could take care of herself.
The Mirror reports that she will be giving birth in under a month at a private hospital in Cambridge through an elective Caesarean.
Commenting on the story yesterday, Christian pro-life group Comment on Reproductive Ethics said: "We have to think about the child being born to a mother of 66 and consider whether or not this is the best thing. Nature dictates that it isn't."
