The royal couple received a number of unusual gifts during their official visits to seven countries last year
A list of the extravagant and eccentric gifts received by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall on official visits abroad has been published.

Last year the royal couple visited the US, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain in the Middle East. They also went to Uganda and Turkey for brief four-day trips.

During engagements, Prince Charles and his wife met with royal dignitaries, local officials and members of the public who gave them more than 200 gifts which ranged from the traditional to the personal.

On his visit to America, Charles received traditional gifts such as an American football, a baseball cap and models of monuments such as the Liberty Bell. But he also received a watercolour pad, ceramic bowls and other items such as one listed as "chutney, maple syrup and honey" during engagements.

While visiting the Middle East, the heir to the throne received a number of extravagant gifts from members of the royal family which included carpets, swords and jewellery. Camilla received a traditional Islamic dress called an Abaya as well as accessories such as brooches and belts.

Besides a number of models displaying Arab culture, the prince also received an Arabian stallion and robes.

While in Turkey and Uganda the royal couple received a number of interesting gifts while paying official visits to dignitaries, local projects and universities. These included walking sticks, a Whirling Dervish hat, ceramic tiles and plates and even polo shirts.

Official gifts can be worn or used but are not considered the royals' personal property. They eventually become part of the Royal Collection and cannot be bought or sold.
