The Killers, Take That and Beyonce will all perform at the MTV Europe Music awards (EMAs) on Thursday evening in Liverpool.
Coldplay, Duffy, Britney Spears are the frontrunners for glory at the ceremony, with a hat-trick of award nominations.
Coldplay are in the running for the act of 2008 prize, alongside Amy Winehouse, Leona and Rihanna while Duffy has a shot at the best new act award, though she faces stiff competition from US teen acts the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, pop-rockers OneRepublic and chart-topper Katy Perry.
Perry is hosting the show at the Liverpool Echo Arena and said she plans to emulate former presenter Christina Aguilera.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday morning, the I Kissed A Girl star said she had discovered Aguilera made nine outfit changes when she presented the EMAs; Perry is planning 12.
