Reigning Wimbledon ladies' champion Venus Williams has set-up an intriguing semi-final meeting with fifth seed Elena Dementieva after winning her quarter-final today.
Williams, who is looking to win her fifth rosewater dish and her third in the last four years, comfortably defeated Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn - the woman who knocked out second seed Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round - in straight sets.
The 28-year-old American was not at her dazzling best in the first women's quarter-final on Court One but still managed to ease past Tanasugarn, who was contesting her first-ever grand slam last-eight match, 6-4 6-3.
In contrast, Dementieva - who is the highest seed remaining in the tournament after the premature exits of top seed Ana Ivanovic, Jankovic, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova - struggled to see off Nadia Petrova on Centre Court.
The Russian world number five held a set lead and a 5-1 advantage in the second and looked to be cruising through.
But Petrova rebounded strongly to win the second set on a tiebreak 8-6 before eventually falling 6-1 6-7 6-3 to Dementieva.
