At least 17 people have been killed after a suspected car bombing in the Syrian capital Damascus.
According to Syrian television, a car rigged with 20 kilograms of explosives detonated on the southern Mahlak Street, close to a security post and a holy shrine for Shia Muslims.
"Investigations by the Terrorism Combating Unit are under way to identify the attackers," state television reported official sources as saying.
The windows in nearby buildings were shattered in the explosion while a further 14 people, all civilians, were wounded.
No group or individual has as of yet claimed responsibility for the blast, which was the worst in Damascus for months.
Imad Mughniyah, the commander of Hizbullah's military wing and regarded by the US and Israel as one of the world's most-wanted terrorists, was killed in a car bombing in February.
