An anti-Syrian Lebanese politician has been assassinated in an explosion in Beirut.
Eye witnesses and security officials say Walid Eido died in a targeted blast at the Lebanese capital's waterfront in the Manara district.
Four people were killed in the bomb attack, including the MP's son Khalid and two bodyguards.
At least ten other people were injured in the explosion, which took place at a sports club used by military personnel.
Local television stations showed pictures of a burned out car and debris at the scene of the explosion.
The attack comes as Lebanese troops continue to battle al-Qaida linked militants at Palestinian refugee camps in the north of the country.
Then Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri was assassinated in February 2005 in a strike widely believed to have been organised by Syria or pro-Damascus figures in Lebanon itself. Syria denies any involvement in Mr Hariri's killing.
A UN panel is currently overseeing the investigation into the former prime minister's death.
