Manager Mark Hughes has admitted his side rode their luck before eventually sealing their place in the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup.
Holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg, City conceded twice in the final five minutes of normal time before going to penalties, when Shay Given saved twice to seal his side's place in the last-eight.
And Hughes admitted he was left "scratching his head" as to how his team contrived to lose their two-goal cushion when so close to the end of the game.
"Maybe lady luck smiled on us - that's a good sign," he said.
"I did wonder how that situation developed, but we've made it through to the next round.
"Knowing Shay was in goal for us gave the guys confidence taking their kicks.
"I think they had a real belief that Shay would play a hand."
City will discover their quarter-final opponents when the draw for the next round is made at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, at 12:00 GMT.
