Fabio Capello has said he will not speak English to the media until he is confident enough with the language to know his words cannot be "twisted".
The Italian, who is also fluent in Spanish following his two stints in charge of Real Madrid, admitted he fears being misquoted by the notoriously sensationalist English press.
He has asserted that his grasp of the language, which he claimed he could learn within two months of being appointed England manager, is good enough to converse with the players.
But he said he preferred to express himself in his native tongue when talking to journalists, in much the same manner as Tottenham Hotspur's Spanish coach Juande Ramos.
"I will speak English with you [the press] when I am sure that I know all the terms and all the right words because you are very good at twisting things," he said.
"I will be very careful."
He added: "I can explain and communicate with the players in a much easier way so I am happy about my English when I am with them."
Capello took his first training session as England boss yesterday, ahead of tomorrow's friendly against Switzerland, and said he was "very happy with the attitude and participation" of the squad.
"They looked very interested and eager about doing something new and something different, especially because we want to reach the objectives we have set."
