South Africa's Retief Goosen claimed a one-shot lead after the first round of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational after carding a four-under-par 66.
Goosen's nearest challengers include countryman Tim Clark, Fiji's Vijay Singh, American Zach Johnson and Sweden's Daniel Chopra, who all shot first-round 67s at the par-70 Firestone course.
England's Steve Webster joins a number of other big names still well in contention near the top of the leaderboard, with US Open runner up Rocco Mediate of the United States alongside several of his countrymen in a 14-man group tied for sixth.
World number two Phil Mickelson, as well as Chad Campbell, Stewart Ccink, Justin Leonard, Chris DiMarco, Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk are all on two under par after day one.
They are joined by fellow Americans Chez Reavie, Sean O'Hair, Brandt Snedeker and Charles Howell III and Australian star Scott Strange.
Two-time Open champion Padraig Harrington is also within touching distance of Goosen at the summit, with a one-under-par first round after teeing off from the tenth.
He is joined in a 14-player group by Spain's Sergio Garcia, South African Ernie Els, England's Ross Fisher and Canada's Stephen Ames among others.
