Police are investigating the M1 crash
A Labour peer who was caught up in a fatal Christmas Day motorway collision has spoken of his shock.
Lord Ahmed, who was recently in the headlines for his role in attempting to get British teacher Gillian Gibbons pardoned in Sudan, was involved in the accident on the M1 in South Yorkshire.
A 28-year-old man, from Leigh in Greater Manchester, was killed in the incident.
The victim's Audi A4 had been involved in a crash on the motorway, following which he left his vehicle.
He was then hit while returning to the car by the peer's Jaguar, according to police.
Lord Ahmed, 50, suffered facial injuries as a result of the crash, while his wife, 49, and mother, in her 80s, were also hurt.
Speaking to the BBC after the incident, the Muslim peer said that police were investigating so there was little he could say.
He did, however, say that he was shocked by what had happened.
"It was horrendous," he said.
"I haven't got over the fact that there has been a fatality. I'm in shock and still recovering from my injuries. My wife and mother are in shock too."
Other vehicles were also involved in the crash close to junction 35 near Sheffield and police have called for witnesses to come forward.
The dead man is said to be Slovakian and his 30-year-old passenger, also from the eastern European country, is suffering from minor bruising and shock.
