Security officials in Egypt have announced that a group of 15 foreign tourists are believed to have been kidnapped in the southern city of Aswan.
Five Italians and an unknown number of Germans and Egyptians are thought to be among the group, though exact details about the abduction remain unclear.
There are unconfirmed reports that the group have been taken across the Egyptian border into Sudan and the kidnappers have asked for 6 million (£4.75 million).
An official told the Associated Press news agency: "We don't know yet who did this and we don't know the whereabouts of the tourists."
Kidnappings in Egypt have been very rare in recent years.
