Essex remain winless in this season's Pro40 League after slumping to a six-run defeat via the Duckworth-Lewis method against Warwickshire at Southend.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the hosts made 118-6 after the match had been reduced to 34 overs a side due to rain.
Opener Darren Maddy and Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara both top-scored with 41.
Essex were skittled out for 184 in their 34 overs but won because of their higher run rate, Grant Flower top-scoring with 53 off 49 balls.
Elsewhere, Sussex defeated second-placed Hampshire by two wickets at Hove.
The Sharks moved up to fourth after chasing down their target of 261 thanks to 59 from opener Chris Nash.

Elsewhere, Nottinghamshire beat Northamptonshire by six wickets at Trent Bridge.
The hosts set a modest total of 211-6 after winning the toss with opener Chris Rogers making 58.
