Mahela Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera smashed the record for the biggest fourth-wicket partnership as Sri Lanka continued their dominance in the first Test against Pakistan in Karachi.
Both batsmen made double centuries on day two in their stand to 437, which eclipsed the previous highest partnership of 411 between
England's Peter May and Colin Cowdrey against the West Indies in 1957.
Jayawardene and Samaraweera faced a total of 643 balls and were helped by the hot conditions and flat pitch. The visitors eventually declared on 644-7.
Skipper Jayawardene was eventually dismissed for 240 by off spinner Shoaib Malik after a mistimed sweep.
His partner Samaraweera departed seven balls later for 231 after being bamboozled by spinner Danish Kaneria.
The tourists batted for seven overs of the evening session before declaring when Prasanna Jayawardene was bowled for 18 by Kaneria, who finished with 3-170.
In reply, Pakistan lost Salman Butt for 23 as they reached 44-1 at stumps.
The opener edged a turning delivery from off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan to slip in the penultimate over of the day.
Debutant Khurram Manzoor is unbeaten on 18 as the home side bid to grab a draw in their first Test match in 14 months.
