Spanish police have confirmed they are investigating the "violent" death of a British man in Barcelona.
Derek Cowan, 46, was discovered inside his apartment in the Spanish city on October 8th, the Foreign Office said.
Local police announced they were waiting for the results of post-mortem to establish whether Mr Cowan had been murdered.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "I can confirm the death of Derek Cowan, aged 46, in Spain.
"Next of kin have been informed in the UK. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are in contact with the Spanish authorities who are looking into this."
