Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has increased the intensity of the rivalry between Chelsea and Manchester United by suggesting he wants to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Scolari is impressed with the progress Ronaldo has made over the last three seasons and says he would welcome the chance to take him to Stamford Bridge.
The Chelsea boss says that as Portugal manager he used to have to vote for the Fifa player of the year. Having previously voted for Chelsea trio Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry, Scolari says he would like to add Ronaldo to his squad as he admires him in a similar way.
"Now he is one of the three best players in the world," Scolari told the Daily Mail. "I said that two years ago, and I repeat it now.
"When I was at Portugal, I had to choose three players every year. One year I chose Didier Drogba as one of my three. Another year, I wrote John Terry. Another year I wrote Frank Lampard.
"Now these three players are with me, and that's very good for me. Maybe next season, Cristiano is with me. Very good. If he wants to change, I'll open the door to that."
Ronaldo was linked with a move away from Old Trafford all summer but eventually decided to stay with United rather than joining Real Madrid.
Having made that choice Ronaldo also hinted that he would review his situation at the end of this season and Scolari hopes that his relationship with the midfielder, built in the national squad, could help him lure Ronaldo to Chelsea.
