AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has admitted that Andrea Pirlo could leave the Italian giants.
Chelsea, now managed by former Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti, have been linked with the Italy international.
Reports have claimed that Pirlo will join the Blues following Kaka's switch to Real Madrid.
Berlusconi has dismissed claims that Brazilian prodigy Pato will be sold, but said Pirlo's future is uncertain.
"We are going to see what we do with Pirlo, I hope that he is going to stay and I was the first to say so, but we must assess the situation," Berlusconi said on the Milan Channel.
"Pato is going to complete an amazing career and I think that he can replace Kaka."
He added: "This year we have a great team, last season we wasted our finish by giving the ball away too often in decisive moments."
Earlier this week, Pirlo, 30, admitted he is thinking about a new challenge and may join Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge.
The playmaker is currently away on international duty at the Confederations Cup.
