British number one Andy Murray overturned Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela in straight sets to move into the third round of the Madrid Masters.
The 20-year-old Scot swiftly racked up a 6-1 6-3 win that showcased some delightful shots and will now face either Marcos Baghdatis or Rafael Nadal in his next match.
Murray took the first set at a canter with breaks in Chela's first two service games and a commanding display on his own serve soon opening up a 5-0 lead.
Chela grimly clung on in the next game and, with the help of an over-hit attempted winner from Murray, managed to avoid a whitewash.
But it was too late to save the opener and Murray moved a set up with a nerveless conversion of his subsequent service game.
The momentum behind the young Scot carried over into the next set as he secured a break in the very first game, but after slipping to 4-1 Chela finally found some fight to avoid a repeat embarrassment.
He pegged back one of Murray's two breaks with a cheeky drop-shot to claw his way to 4-3, but the revival was clinically killed off by Murray as he charged the net to dominate his South American opponent in moving to 5-3 up.
The end came as Chela's limp forehand dropped into the net to hand Murray two match points and the youngster capitalised on the second to secure his passage into the next round.
