Following his straight-sets victory over Radek Stepanek in the Madrid Masters, Andy Murray claimed it was one of his best since joining the ATP Tour.
The 20-year-old Scot eased past his senior opponent from the Czech Republic in the first round with little trouble, despite Stepanek's enviable record against top-20 players on the circuit.
Murray allowed no break points against the world number 30, who was broken on three separate occasions in the hour-long contest, which finished 6-4 6-1.
And afterwards Murray, who faces a meeting with ATP officials over comments he made to the media about match-fixing in tennis, declared himself very happy with the performance.
"There is no question this is one of the best matches I've played since I've been on the Tour," the young Scot said.
"Not one of my service games went to deuce and I never faced a break point.
"I knew after I broke him to win the first set that I was favourite to win the match."
In the second round Murray faces 15th seed Juan Ignacio Chela, over whom he holds a 2-1 career advantage in the head-to-head stats.
The Spaniard beat Murray in their first meeting at the 2006 Australian Open, but the Scot has two straight-sets wins over Chela since then at the Paris Masters last season and the Australian Open earlier this year.
