Madonna has announced her hugely successful Sticky and Sweet tour is to restart later this year, featuring new European shows.

The 50-year-old's tour concluded in Sao Paolo, Brazil in December but it has now been confirmed that she will hit the road again in 2009, with Paul Oakenfold opening at all 16 of the new European dates.

The Sticky and Sweet tour was the highest-grossing series of concerts in 2008, with a massive worldwide haul of $281.6 million (£193 million).

The Material Girl's global jaunt, which featured a virtual duet with Justin Timberlake and a Ukrainian gypsy band, also became the eighth highest-grossing tour of all time in the US, according to music trade publication Pollstar.

A message on the singer's website - entitled 'It's Official: Madonna To Tour This Summer' - confirmed the continuation of the Sticky and Sweet shows.

"Madonna fans, are you ready for more?" it said. "We are happy to confirm that the rumours are true: Madonna has decided to extend her Sticky and Sweet tour."

The post said Madonna is "looking forward to an amazing summer in Europe, hitting the cities she didn't get a chance to in 2008".

It has now been announced that Madonna will visit London's O2 Arena (July 4th) and the MEN Arena in Manchester (July 6th) as part of the new tour.

The extended Sticky and Sweet jaunt also takes in Milan, Barcelona and Munich, Oslo, Helsinki, Hamburg, Prague and Warsaw, with further dates planned in Bulgaria, Hungary, Russia, Romania, and Serbia.
