Lorenzo-Vera leads way at Adare

Harrington still has a chance of retaining his Irish Open crown
Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera leads the Irish Open at Adare by a slim margin, after a two-under round of 70 put him six-under par for the tournament - one shot clear of Marcel Seim of Germany.

Day one leader Richard Green and Spain's Pablo Larrazabal follow on four-under, while one of several Irish players still in the hunt - Darren Clarke - is stationed a shot behind on three-under, having gone round in 69.

Lorenzo-Vera, number one on the European Challenge Tour in 2007, was happy with his all-round performance.

He commented: "That was really good today. My driving is getting better and the errant shots are better. Sand wedge is all right and putter is definitely good, my best friend at the moment."

Meanwhile, last year's champion Padraig Harrington carded a one-under par 71 to stay within reach of Lorenzo-Vera, only five shots back.

Harrington is aiming to retain his focus ahead of final 36 holes: "Who knows what's going to happen on the weekend; I'm just going to do my thing, play good golf and try to stay patient."
